CT Scanning

These CT images were created in 3Dslicer. I use bone segmentation to measure the shape of bones in the pectoral girdle and jaws of fish. I learned to CT scan and use 3Dslicer at Friday Harbor Labs during my Biological Imaging apprenticeship.

Rabbitfish Jaws

This gif shows a 360 degree view of the jaws of the rabbitfish, Siganus rivulatus, the images composing this gif were constructed in 3Dslicer.

Damselfish Jaw

This animation is an aproximation of the movement of the jawbones of Chromis ovalis as the mouth opens and closes. These bones were segmented in 3Dslicer from the full scan of the Chromis ovalis skull shown below, the bones were then animated using blender.

Segmented Skull

This is a CT scan of a damselfish skull (Chromis ovalis). I segmented the bones using 3Dslicer.

3D printed Skull

The final product of the damselfish CT scan project was to 3D print each of the segmented bones and create a model of the skull at 20X the size of the original fish. These were 3D printed on a resin printer and a PLA printer.
